This is not easy to check the problem of pitch with the naked eye. According to the technicians, for every twenty feet of the gutter, the difference in the height of the downspout from the other end should be one centimetre. With the naked eye, it is nearly impossible to judge the difference. Obviously, some scientific tools are needed to measure the exact height.
So Clean uses an inclinometer and other tools to detect the difference in the height of the spout on either side of the fascia. These tools are also used in regular maintenance. The renovation project remains incomplete without these tools. By using these instruments, we come to know the difference in the height of the spout and now we are ready to tackle the real problem of the gutter system.
However, a non-technical method is also used to see whether the problem is really with the incline of the gutter. You know grit moves with the flow of water. If grit is collected at the ends, it means the problem is not with the slope. Rather, it is a problem of the drainage system. If the grit spreads all along the channel and is not moving with the movement of the water, it is exactly the problem of sloping.
After finding the real problem we start working on the issue and use the best suitable treatment. For gutter resloping, we need to unfix all the screws of the gutter line and dislodge it from the roof. Then by using an inclinometer and a long line, we chalk out the line where the gutter will be fixed now. We will also fix the downspouts on either side of the roof on the drawn lines.
For fixing the downspouts, we take care that the height must not vary even equal to a fraction of a millimetre. If the length of the fascia is more than twenty feet then it is better to use downspouts on both sides of the roof. In this case, the highest point of the slope of the gutter channel will be the centre of the fascia. In this way, the slope will decline from the centre to either side of the roof.
